Alfred
Russell of Holyoke, Massachusetts, seen in the adjacent photo,
is the son of Francis Roussel and
Sophrenie C. St Amand.
Francis
Roussel born in 1819 and wife Sophrenie C. St Amand
born in 1827 were French/Canadian born and immigrated
to the United States in 1862.

U.S.
Census
Francis Roussel's son Almand Russell was born in Massachusetts and was
nine years old in 1870. Veryifing their arrival into the United States
to be the year 1861/62... depending on Almand's birth month.
2nd

US Census - Alfred Russell citizenship data column 10 states he
immigrated into the US in 1862.
Due
to a lack of records, the U.S. destination of the Russell Family in
1862 is unknown at this time,
however, eight years later, in 1870,
we find them in the U.S Census living in Hinsdale, Berkshire
County, Massachusetts. Which is only 7 miles east of the
Berkshire County Seat located
in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

U.S. Hindsdale, Massachusetts Census enumerator used the
American variation of their name -- listing it as Russell
During the summer of
1870, Francis Roussel was 50 years of age and his wife
Sophrenie
was 42. Their eldest son Nelson
Russell age 20, daughter Eliza Russell age 16, Mary Russell age 14,
Freddie (Alfred) age 12 and Almand Russell age 9 were all working in
the "Woolen Mills" in Hinsdale, including their father
Francis. Mother Sophrenie Russell was at home keeping house and caring for
their two youngest children -- Joseph age 4 & Julia
age 1.
All of the Francis
Roussel & Sophrenie St Amand's children were born in Canada except Almand, Joseph & Julia
who were born in Massachusetts.
In
the year 1880 on the 9th day of June The 1880 US Census was taken
and we find Francis & Sophrenie living in Middlefield,
Massachusetts. Francis was 60 years old and Sophia was 51.
Living with them in their home were two of their sons, Almand 18 years
of age and still single and Joseph 14 years old. I addition to
their two boys, also living in their home was their grandson, age six,
